Piedra Blanca Backpacking Trip by Jonathan Weakliam

On May 16th, 2015 Troop 26 had a great backpacking trip to Piedra Blanca. As usual, we met at the Big Five parking lot and drove to the trail head about 20 miles North of Ojai. There were ten scouts and several adults. There was also the group of Philmount scouts that met up with us on Saturday.

The hike was not too hard at only about 2.5 miles and 400 feet elevation gain to where we camped. Once we got there we set up our tents and made camp. Shortly after, we went boulder hopping up to this area that had cool cave paintings. We were asked to not publicize the exact location of the cave paintings outside the troop to help protect them.

The Philmont group made it to our campsite at around 4:00pm from Beartrap where they’d camped Friday night and we all had dinner together. The next morning we hiked out with our backpacks to a rocky area to have our lunch. We then made our way to the trail head and drove back to the church arriving Sunday afternoon. Overall it was a great trip.
