Colorado River – Joshua Tree Trip Information

Spring Break, March 22-26, 2014

Colorado River

Troop 26 will be visiting an area that it has not been to in over six years, the Colorado River. We will be leaving from Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 22 from the Big 5 parking lot at 7:00 a.m. and travel to an area near Needles California. The following two days we will spend canoeing on the Colorado River.

The first day on the river will be a shorter, 10-mile paddle, and we will work on some canoeing merit badge activities.

The 2nd day will be a 17-mile paddle through the Topack Gorge. This is a beautiful spot on the river just north of Lake Havasu.

Joshua Tree National Park

On Tuesday we will leave the Colorado River area and head to Joshua Tree National Monument. This area is known for its world class climbing and bouldering. In the afternoon we will be doing a hike to the lost horse mine and then head for camp.

On the last day of our adventure we will we enjoy a rock climbing adventure with the climbing guides Uprising Adventures.

Our troop has used this guide group before and they do a great job of providing a fun and safe climbing adventure. Following the climbing, we will have lunch and head for home. We should arrive home around 7:00 p.m.

Trip Cost

The total cost for this trip will be $225.00. This includes all meals starting with Saturday dinner and transportation. This also includes the canoe rentals and rock climbing guides and gear.

Sign up Deadline

Sign ups will begin on February 11, 2014 and close on March 4, 2014. Since we will be making a deposit on the events the total fee of $225 will be due on March 4, 2014.

If you do not have the swimming merit badge you will be required to do a swim test before going on this trip. We will arrange for a time and place for scouts to take this test.
