February Day Hike – Gaviota Peak

The participants were:
18 scouts:
Josh A, Riley B, Logan B, Cooper B, Ben B, Carter F, Vaughn F, Wesley G, Max J, Sam J, Cameron N, Simon P, Eric S, Nicholas S, Jeremiah S, James T, Jason T, Ben Z.
10 adults:
Jerry Ball, Jasonn Beckstrand, Bruce Belfiore, Michael Brown, Ben Feld, Paul Johnson, Mark Shaw, Rick Spitzer, Rob Taylor, Cesar Zevallos.

The original destination was Montecito Peak but, because of the weather and we did not want to cause damage to the trail. We instead went to Gaviota Peak which has a wide fire road like trail to the top. The weather was very poor and the trail was covered in slippery mud. It was raining the entire time, but thankfully everyone brought their rain gear. We made it to the top of the peak but, because of the hazardous weather conditions we decided to eat our lunch back down at the cars. Everyone made it back safely and we had a good time despite the conditions.
