DESCRIPTION:The last day to sign up for this event is March 11 at the Troop meeting.  Scouts will organize into cooking patrols and tent partners at that time.\nScouts are required to go on one preparation ride on 3/8\, 3/9\, 3/15\, or 3/16 prior to the trip.  These rides will assess the capability of the scouts and their bikes for the trip.\nThere will be a bike trek at Carrizo Plain on March 22-26\, Saturday through Wednesday. The area will be in the Padrone Canyon Road and Wells Ranch ruins areas\, which are in the southern part of the Plain. The terrain covered will be gentle slopes and flat areas over dirt roads in good condition. We will trek between two base camps and on day trips around them. Scouts will carry only gear and food needed for the day’s trek. We will need support in the form of vehicles to transport bikes and gear to and from the Plain and between the base camps. In addition\, we will need to supply all of our water and firewood for evening campfires. There are no fire restrictions for the Plain except for reasonable precautions in using fire. Scouts\, and adults who ride\, will need mountain style bikes with at least 2.1″ tires and 2 liters of water to carry each day. All scouts should be able to do this trek and there will be several troop bike rides before then to assess and improve rider and bike capability. The trek and preparation rides will provide ample time to satisfy requirements for ranks through first class and Cycling\, Cooking\, Camping merit badges. There will be dutch oven cooking for those who wish to do so.\nWe may be able to schedule a visit to Wallace Creek\, where the shift in the San Andreas fault is visible on the landforms. Also\, flowers may be out at this time.\nScouts and adults are urged to sign up as soon as possible in order to make plans for the necessary vehicles and patrol cooking.\nFor further information reply to Richardscholl@hotmail.com

SUMMARY:Jesusita Sunset Hike (Armstrong/Perez)
DESCRIPTION:Scouts and Scouters\,\nThis is a wonderful 7-mile hike on a riparian trail up to a scenic lookout with panoramic views. 3.5miles out\, all uphill with the second and third mile being quite steep. 3.5miles back\, all downhill. Meet at the trailhead by Cater Water Treatment plant on North San Roque Rd. Start time moved earlier to 3pm to make sure we catch the sunset. That should give us time to get to Inspiration point\, enjoy sunset\, have a snack\, rest\, then get part way down in twilight before we switch on headtorches. This is great training for Sierra Trek and scouts that are going on that are expected to join this hike. Bring your essentials\, especially 2 liters of water and a snack/meal for the top. Wear sensible clothing: good hiking boots\, layers\, and a hat. Bring sunscreen\, and a raincoat just in case\, could be hot to start and cold on the way back.  Bring a headlamp and spare batteries\, for the nighttime hike back.\nMessrs. Armstrong & Perez
