DESCRIPTION:What: CAMPOREE!\nWhen: 4/4/2025\, 5:30:00 PM to 4/6/2025\, 9:00:00 AM\nWhere: RANCHO ALEGRE / LARSEN MEADOW\nHello Scouts and Families\,\nCamporee is our annual rendezvous with other area troops for fun activities\, competitions\, and entertainment around the campfire.  It will be at Larsen Meadow this year.  Larsen Meadow is part of the Council’s Rancho Alegre ().  Going north on Hwy 154\, it is the left turn (with a left turn lane) immediately after the main entrance for Rancho Alegre and- just before the entrance to Lake Cachuma.  Please be careful going in and out of Larsen Meadow\, the traffic on Hwy 154 can be very fast.\nCamporee runs from 5:30pm Friday evening (camp setup\, dinner\, information sessions — please do not arrive late) to checkout 9am Sunday morning. Saturday features competition events\, possibly other activities\, and an evening campfire where awards are presented.  Parents/family are welcome at the evening campfire.\nI am sending the attached Leader’s Packet that has a full description of the weekend.  I encourage Scouts and parents to read it and to talk about how each Scout can be best prepared for Camporee.\nRIGHT NOW\, this is what we need:\n*  Please sign up in the RSVP space in this calendar event\, NO LATER THAN TUESDAY MARCH 18.\n*  Every Scout and every Registered Adult who RSVPs by March 18 will have his or her fee and Saturday dinner paid by the Troop. (Yay!)  \n*  Adults:  I encourage all ASMs to sign up\, and stay overnight if you can.  ASMs will be conducting an Orienteering competition event on Saturday.  ASMs’ fees and meal will be paid by the troop.\n* Other registered adults who wish to camp overnight may do so\, but I would encourage instead the Saturday pass.  The reason is that space will be limited for our campsite.  \n* Adults who are not registered adults may visit on Saturday and/or stay for dinner and campfire Saturday night.  They will pay their own day fee ($15) and dinner fee ($20) at the site.\n*All Scouts will be assigned tent partners and cooking (2 breakfasts\, one lunch) will be by patrol. DESCRIPTION:The last day to sign up for this event is March 11 at the Troop meeting.  Scouts will organize into cooking patrols and tent partners at that time.\nScouts are required to go on one preparation ride on 3/8\, 3/9\, 3/15\, or 3/16 prior to the trip.  These rides will assess the capability of the scouts and their bikes for the trip.\nThere will be a bike trek at Carrizo Plain on March 22-26\, Saturday through Wednesday. The area will be in the Padrone Canyon Road and Wells Ranch ruins areas\, which are in the southern part of the Plain. The terrain covered will be gentle slopes and flat areas over dirt roads in good condition. We will trek between two base camps and on day trips around them. Scouts will carry only gear and food needed for the day’s trek. We will need support in the form of vehicles to transport bikes and gear to and from the Plain and between the base camps. In addition\, we will need to supply all of our water and firewood for evening campfires. There are no fire restrictions for the Plain except for reasonable precautions in using fire. Scouts\, and adults who ride\, will need mountain style bikes with at least 2.1″ tires and 2 liters of water to carry each day. All scouts should be able to do this trek and there will be several troop bike rides before then to assess and improve rider and bike capability. The trek and preparation rides will provide ample time to satisfy requirements for ranks through first class and Cycling\, Cooking\, Camping merit badges. There will be dutch oven cooking for those who wish to do so.\nWe may be able to schedule a visit to Wallace Creek\, where the shift in the San Andreas fault is visible on the landforms. Also\, flowers may be out at this time.\nScouts and adults are urged to sign up as soon as possible in order to make plans for the necessary vehicles and patrol cooking.\nFor further information reply to Richardscholl@hotmail.com
