SUMMARY:Jesusita Sunset Hike (Armstrong/Perez)
DESCRIPTION:Scouts and Scouters\,\nThis is a wonderful 7-mile hike on a riparian trail up to a scenic lookout with panoramic views. 3.5miles out\, all uphill with the second and third mile being quite steep. 3.5miles back\, all downhill. Meet at the trailhead by Cater Water Treatment plant on North San Roque Rd. Start time moved earlier to 3pm to make sure we catch the sunset. That should give us time to get to Inspiration point\, enjoy sunset\, have a snack\, rest\, then get part way down in twilight before we switch on headtorches. This is great training for Sierra Trek and scouts that are going on that are expected to join this hike. Bring your essentials\, especially 2 liters of water and a snack/meal for the top. Wear sensible clothing: good hiking boots\, layers\, and a hat. Bring sunscreen\, and a raincoat just in case\, could be hot to start and cold on the way back. SUMMARY:Bear Trap Backpack (Weakliem)
DESCRIPTION:Beartrap – Sat/Sun Jan 18-19\, 2025\nThe Beartrap overnight has been a Troop 26 tradition since the 1970’s – come out to join the long line of your fellow scouts who have fulfilled this right of passage.  \n The hike is about 5 miles\, with 1\,800′ of climbing\, with some great views of the Lockwood Valley.  The Beartrap campground is in a valley with a flowing stream\, but the sun goes behind the hills around 2pm\, and it starts getting cold and dark early  so don’t wait on gathering firewood (crossing out fingers that we can have a fire)!  We sometimes have a dusting of snow\, and the temperature will likely be in the teens at night and in the morning.  So bring warm clothes!  This trip is also a prerequisite for the SnowShoe camping trip\, which will likely happen in Jan/Feb of 2026.\nIt’s also the Silver Spatula competition\, where each patrol competes to cook the best dinner.  Judged by the ASMs.  Don’t ask\, there’s no scoring rubric – we know the best meal when we taste it!  We’ve seen all sorts of impressive meals\, so continue that tradition too.  The last time the troop was there\, none of the patrols “phoned it in” – we had 4 great entries!\nMeet at 7am at Big 5.  Back mid afternoon to the church on Sunday – we’ll call when we’re on our way back.\nThere is no cost for this trip (beyond the patrol food costs).\nCold weather packing list here   – it will be cold\, so make sure to pack what you need to stay warm.\nMr. Weakliem

DESCRIPTION:Hello Scouts!\nI hope that everyone has had a wonderful thanksgiving holiday and are ready to finish off the year. With the Christmas season upon us\, Mr. Weakliem and I would like to offer a special treat for the Troop! We will be teaching the Ice Skating Merit badge on Dec 21st. Time is still TBD\, but will likely be a 2-3 hour window to complete\, sometime in the afternoon. This is a fun and easy merit badge\, with a short classroom component and then skating on the ice for sign offs.\nBecause we have only a few instructors and a small window to meet and get signoffs\, we will only be able to handle up to 16 participants.\nCost will about approximately $20 for admission to the public skate. \nThis will be a lot of fun\, and a great way to enjoy a winter activity.
