With the Christmas season upon us\, Mr. Weakliem and I would like to offer a special treat for the Troop! We will be teaching the Ice Skating Merit badge on Dec 21st. Time is still TBD\, but will likely be a 2-3 hour window to complete\, sometime in the afternoon. This is a fun and easy merit badge\, with a short classroom component and then skating on the ice for sign offs.\nBecause we have only a few instructors and a small window to meet and get signoffs\, we will only be able to handle up to 16 participants.\nCost will about approximately $20 for admission to the public skate. \nThis will be a lot of fun\, and a great way to enjoy a winter activity. SUMMARY:Big Sur Backpacking (Scholl)
DESCRIPTION:Backpacking the Silver Peak Wilderness in Big Sur.  We will backpack 5 days and 4 nights Dec. 15-19 camping at Estrella\, Lion Den\, Silver and Buckeye camps.  (We may shorten the trip by 1 day with a 6 mile hike on the third day and eliminating Silver camp.)  There is water at each camp and there will be great views of the Big Sur coast and we will camp at a large Native American village sites\, where artifacts can be found (artifacts must be left in place). Distance each day will be 3 to 6 miles\, with 1500 ft. climb on each of the first 2 days and dropping back down the next 2-3 days.  This is a good opportunity to meet camping and cooking requirements for ranks and Cooking MB and many of the requirements for Camping and Backpacking MBs.  It will also be a good conditioning trek for the Sierra trek. Trip is limited to Scouts with backpacking experience due to the substantial elevation gains.

WE WILL HAVE 6 PACK 36 AOLs WITH US\, PLEASE DO ALL YOU CAN TO INCLUDE THEM AND HELP THEM HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE!\nSPECIAL SERVICE PROJECT ON DECEMBER 14\nOn Saturday\, December 14\, Troop 26 Scouts and available parents are requested to participate in\, perhaps\, our most important service project of the year.  The Commanding Officer of the Santa Barbara Chapter of The American Legion has requested Scout units throughout the Santa Barbara area to place Christmas wreaths on the gravesites of military veterans in cemeteries across the community. This will be a part of the Wreaths Across America Program which originated back in 1992 when a young boy suggested such a nationwide project after observing Christmas wreaths being placed on veterans’ graves at Arlington National Cemetery. The project has now grown to over 5\,000 cemeteries across the country with over 2 Million people\, 50\,000 Scouts\, and numerous veterans organizations\, service clubs\, and average citizens placing the wreaths. \nWe are asking all members and leaders of Troop 26 to wear Class A Scout uniforms\, along with available parents and family members respectfully attired\, to join this special Day of Remembrance in the spirit of the Holiday Season at the Santa Barbara Cemetery\, 901 Channel Drive.  We will meet at 9:30am at the flagpole on the hilltop about 100 yards above the cemetery entrance gate. The wreaths will be waiting for us at that location.  We expect the news media\, including television cameras\, to be present to cover the project.\nIf all of our Scouts attend and each places just ten American wreaths on the selected gravesites\, we can be finished very quickly.  Upon completion\, we will regroup at the flagpole for a very brief salute and silent tribute to the veterans\, followed by the playing of Taps by our Troop Bugler\, Liam Cook\nEach Patrol Leader is to check with their Patrol Members and strongly encourage their participation.  Patrol Leaders and the SPL and ASPL are to bring the patrol and troop flags and their stands to this event.
