The hike to Gaviota Wind Caves was short but steep, about 2.4 miles round trip, with an altitude of about 693 feet. The hike had about a 700-foot elevation gain, which made the climb challenging even though the distance was short. Six scouts attended the hike, and one of the most memorable parts was seeing the wind-eroded sandstone caves and the views of Gaviota Beach and the Pacific Ocean. We continued along the ridge to the radio shack and then turned back down. – Historian, Henry Rutledge
