Beach hike from El Cap – Goleta (Weakliem)

December 6 @ 1:15 pm - 5:30 pm PST

El Cap to Haskells Beach hike. You’ve driven this part of the coast 100 times, but have probably never seen the beach side, as it’s all private property. Here’s your chance to see some fantastic ocean and coastal views; it’s only possible on certain tides. This hike is about 7 miles.
Meet at the church (back parking lot) at 1:15 on Saturday (so eat lunch at home), we’ll drive up to El Cap and start to hike around 2pm, when the tide should be low enough to get going. We’ll hike down to Goleta (specifically, the coastal access spot near the Bacara hotel, aka Haskells beach) where scouts will be picked up at around 5:30pm (i.e. parents, please plan to pick up your scouts at the end of the hike – NOT back at the church). We will need some parent volunteers to drive scouts up to El Cap so we don’t need to leave cars there (or sets of parents to help shuttle cars – you can probably do the hike too if you like). Post a note, or we can talk on Tuesday at the meeting.
All are welcome! Bring your 10 essentials, a snack, and sneakers that can get wet. The beginning involves walking over some cobblestones, so you’ll want sneakers or boots; not flip-flops or Tevas. Most of the time will be on sand, and we should stay dry with the low tide, but there’s still places to get wet, especially if you poke around some of the tidepools. We’ll be finishing the hike just past sunset, so make sure your light works in case we’re doing the last little bit in the dark. Also, have a warm sweatshirt and windbreaker, as it’ll get cold as it gets dark.
