Snowshoe backpacking trip! More details to follow, but the basics are we hike a few miles – on our home-built snowshoes – and camp overnight in the snow! On the trip home, we stop at Keohe hot springs to have lunch and warm up. This trip is a T26 tradition and one you’ll remember for years! This trip is not suitable for every scout so talk to Mr. Weakliem if you’re unsure, or are a newer scout, and you need to have done the Beartrap overnight/cold weather trip.
In past years, we have left at 4am on Saturday, hiked in to stay Saturday night, and driven home Sunday, which is a hard schedule for the drivers – but if we’re able to we will extend it to 3 days, spending a more relaxed day driving to the Bishop area (while stopping at some sights along the way) sleep overnight in Bishop, then hike in on Sunday, and back out on Monday followed by our stop at the hot springs and the drive home.
This trip is dependent on snow conditions (and, in the event of tons of snow, road conditions!) ….the backup weekend is Presidents weekend (Feb 17-19).
And the
Trip cost is $125 and includes transportation, Saturday dinner, Monday lunch and dinner, and hot springs admission.
