Thanksgiving Beach Hike @ Low tide

Mr Weakliem to lead. It’s a hike that most Santa Barbarans have never done!! And it’s right here! Many of you did the beach hike from El Cap to Goleta – this time we’ll do the Gaviota to Refugio. Then, at some point you and your family can do the 2 mile hike between Refugio and El Cap and then you’ll have hiked the whole beach from Gaviota all the way back to Goleta!! This hike is about 9 miles, 50′ of ascent. Low tide is around 2:30, so we’ll need to be close to Refugio by then as there’s some narrow spots that we need the low tide for. We’d arrive at Refugio a bit past 3.Bring snacks, water, and appropriate clothing – it’s often windy on the beach up there, so bring a windbreaker or rain jacket! See, just bring the 10 essentials, as it’ll include that!Hopefully we’ll have some geologists with us to explain some of the great geology that we see!We will work out plans for driving, but hopefully we can get enough adults to come so we can do some carpooling, and either do some car shuttling at the end, or have people picking us all up too. If we carpool, meet at the church (back parking lot) at 11:15. We hope to leave for the hike from Gaviota at noon, so if you’re meeting us there, that’s your deadline!
