Gaviota State Park: Overlook Fire Road 3/4/23

Initially, the plan for this weekend’s activities was a backpacking trip in Cottam but that was canceled due to the storms that caused damage to the trails. Then it was scheduled to be a backpacking trip to Chimineas Ranch where Sam Schley did his eagle project. Unfortunately, this was also canceled because of more rain making the roads inaccessible. The end result was an all-time record of the smallest turnout. Two Scoutmasters, Mr. Schley and Mr. Weakliem, and one scout, Tarkan E, went on the hike in Gaviota to the fire road lookout. It was a great hike totaling a little under six miles. The three of us enjoyed some well earned friendship bread courtesy of Mrs. Soga at the top of the lookout. Regardless of some mud, it was a very beautiful hike with many trees, flowers and a great view of the ocean.
