Scouting for Food 2015

Troop 26 will be participating in the “Scouting for Food” event again this year. On Saturday, March 7 we will be distributing collection bags in a designated neighborhood with a request to fill the bags with can goods for collection on the following Saturday.

This is a great way to make a positive impact on our local community. We will need at least 10 adult volunteers for both Saturdays. The more scouts and volunteers the quicker it will go.

Mr. Pinner and Mr. Johnson and Scout Tyler Williams are in charge of this event. Let’s make this event a great display of Troop 26’s commitment to our community. Please sign up at the meetings.

March 7th – Meet at St. Mark Church at 8:00 a.m. for bag drop off. We should be done by 11:00 a.m. if we have enough help. Please wear your full uniform.

March 14th – Meet at St. Mark Church at 8:30 a.m. in full uniform for the 2nd phase of the Scouting for Food project.

We will divide into teams and go back to the same areas that we delivered the bags to pick up the donated food items, and return with these items to the church. Troop 26 will be backpacking the donated food from the church to the Food Bank on Hollister Avenue. The hike is less than one mile.

There are a few reasons for this hike.

  1. This will count as our March day hike (remember those participation requirements).
  2. It will be a good way to promote the event to the community.
  3. It is a way to increase awareness of how fortunate we are.

There are many people throughout this country and the world who have to walk many miles each day just for the basics like food and clean water. We need ALL scouts to participate.

Please bring your backpack Saturday, March 14h to St. Mark Church at 8:30 a.m. Please remember to wear your full uniform. We will need adult drivers to assist with the food pick-up. We should be finished around noon.

Let’s show our community that Troop 26 is committed to Helping other people at all times.

If you have questions regarding this event please contact Mr. Pinner or Scout Tyler Williams.
