Knapp’s Castle Day Hike 10/3/15 By Sam Johnson

We met at the Big 5 Parking lot Saturday morning October 3rd at 7:00 AM, hopped into our cars , and drove over the mountain. At the trailhead we trained our new trek leader Kaden, and set off on our hike. The hike itself was short, but it was almost completely uphill. We started on a fire road, then switched to a trail, then switched back to a fire road to make the climb up to the castle. At the top of the trail there was a caretaker who builds canoes, and there were other boats around as well. Strange to see boats on top of a mountain.

The castle itself was very beautiful and it being a clear day, we were able to see the whole valley. At the top we took some pictures, and shared Mrs. Soga’s wonderful friendship bread. On the way down, we encountered a few cyclists riding down the trails, and some scouts signed off on their 10 signs of wildlife requirement with Mr. Shaw. We arrived back at the trailhead at around 12:00, and made are way back to Santa Barbara.

The scouts who came on this outing were: Ben B., Nick I., Sean W., Kadan R., Logan B., Jonathan W., Tyler W., Robby W., Jeremiah S., Cooper B., Sam J., Conner S., Timmy H., Braden (guest of Robby)
