May 27 Wreath Laying/Memorial Day – Dressed in our Class A uniform, six leaders and 13 scouts assisted with the festivities on Memorial Day at the Santa Barbara Cemetery honoring our nation’s heroes. The one-lane drive up the hill in the cemetery was lined with American Flags and at the top of the hill was one massive American flag standing sentry over those buried below. The scouts laid wreaths at the foot of the graves symbolizing more than just remembrance: the red bow on the garland symbolizes the blood shed and the green garland the greener pastures they now lay in. The ceremony started out with several songs by the band. Present were representatives from the Army, Navy, Marine Corp, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force all of whom told jokes about which branch of service was the best. Following were solemn speeches about the men and women who served. I was very moved by the ceremony and I feel those under would have been also.
